Ajloun Forest Reserve

Roe Deer Trail

Description:
This short circular trail starts at the campsite and offers great views over the reserve. Not far from the campsite, you will find an old stone wine press. Early in the morning, you may be lucky enough to see Roe deer before you return to the visitor center.

Rasoun Trail

Description:
This trail begins at the Reserve’s Visitor Center; you will hike through thick, healthy woodlands filled with Oak, Pistachio, and oriental Strawberry trees. Take a short detour to view a ruined wine press before you pass one of the oldest Strawberry trees in the Reserve on your way down into the valley.
The trail climbs 1000m above sea level at Eagle’s View Point descending to Rasoun village, and then you will be transferred to visit the Soap House at the Royal Academy for Nature Conservation where the local women of Ajloun follow the traditional process of making Orjan pure Olive Oil soap.

Rockrose Trail

Description:
Named for the flowers that can be seen around the trail every spring, this hiking loop passes through thick woodlands, orchards, farms, and villages in and around the reserve. It offers beautiful views of the West Bank, Syria, and the Jordanian countryside. About halfway through the hike, observe the wine and olive press from the Byzantine and Roman eras, and just before reaching the end of the trail, rest in the shade of a large Maloul tree. Each season has different vegetation to enjoy.

The first half of the trail is uphill and the second half is downhill; there are steep scrambles enroute that demand a reasonable level of fitness.

The Prophet’s Trail

Description:
This hike takes you from Ajloun Forest Reserve Visitor Center to Mar Elias, the ruins of one of Jordan's oldest churches. It is named for the Prophet Elias, or Elijah, to whom Mar Elias is dedicated. The trail leads through fig and pear orchards, amongst forests of oak and oriental strawberry trees. The stone walls that crisscross the valley guard the farmers' crops inside from both the winter rains and wild boar. Relax in the shade with a glass of tea before climbing to the hilltop ruins, which provide sweeping views of the surrounding area. The hike also includes a locally prepared picnic lunch near the ruins.

Ajloun Castle Trail

Description:
Once you have reached Mar Elias, you have the option of continuing on this challenging trail, which takes you by a small farmhouse and their adjacent orchards on your way to Ajloun Castle, built between AD 1184 - 1188 by Salahadin's nephew. In the first section of the trail, you can enjoy views of the West Bank and Syria, before you descend into a wooded valley. The final difficult uphill is rewarded by the incredible Castle and the marvelous views that accompany it. The hike also includes a locally prepared picnic lunch.

Orjan Village Trail

Description:
Continuing from Rasoun village, this tour takes you through wooded valleys to the lush green orchards of Orjan village, giving you the chance to discover the rural lifestyle of the region. A poplar-lined spring provides a wonderful contrast to the arid mountains of the previous stages of the trail. As you hike, you will notice the dramatic rock walls, old water mills once used by local people to grind their seeds, and the hollow walnut tree.

Enjoy a delicious traditional Brunch in an orchard of fig, pomegranate, apple, and apricot trees. At the end of the trail, you will pass through old Olive trees dating back to the old days of the Roman Empire.

Yarmouk Forest Reserve

Description:
This Mountain trail begins from the Dar Al-Basha neighborhood towards Mansoura.

The path begins easily at the beginning of Mount Arqoub Romi, passing through many plants, trees, and animals, most notably (hawthorn, Greek tortoise), species of animals, Gecko, and the rocky mullet associated with malul trees, which indicates the health of the ecosystem).

Though hike, you will pass by the viewpoint, which is 308 degrees above sea level, where you take a rest and enjoy watching the Lake of Tiberias, Tur Mountains, and Golan heights.

Then the hike will take you down to 142 above sea level, towards an archaeological landmark – Arqoub Romi – up to Ain Nini. The path ends at Al – Arayis pool.

Al-Shreif Mountain trail

Description:
TAl-Shreif Mountain trail starts from Umm Qais area towards the village of Al-Mukhaibah al-Tahta. The path begins easily through a semi-level mountain range with simple ramps and slopes, characterized by the presence of many plants, and trees (hawthorn trees, Sweden trees, sycamores, Greek turtles), species of animals (Gecko gazelles and rocky mullet).

Through the hike, you can take a rest and enjoy some old caves, rock formations, and wells.

Then the path will take you down to 85 meters above sea level, towards the Muntumra Valley, which is the end of the mountain path with tea break on the firewood.

Muntamra Valley Trail

Description:
The trail starts near princess Basma Center at Al- Mansoura, the path then starts easily through the valley where you enjoy the beauty of the variety of plant patterns such as the oak pattern on the foothills of the valley and the pattern of carob trees along the valley, as well as the possibility of seeing some wildlife habitats.

The trail provides you with the opportunity to see ancient frescoes in some old caves dating back to a different era. The valley also has ancient ruins for dwellings used by humans in different periods.

By the end of the valley, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Golan Heights, Lake Tiberias, and the eternal Yarmouk River, then continue the path until it reaches Al – Mukhaiba village.

Al Hreith Trail

Description:
The visitor stops at the beginning of the passageway with a unique view of the fallen oak forest on the one hand and on the cultivated pine forest on the other. During the walk, the visitor can see some annual plants such as hawthorn, Sweden, kandul, wild almond, and figs.

Then the trail will leads you to the viewpoint, which is 308 degrees above sea level, where you take a rest and enjoy watching the Lake of Tiberias, Tur Mountains, and Golan heights.

The corridor is one of the evidence of previous civilizations, which contains water channels used in the Roman era, sections of rocks and caves, some military trenches, and an artillery point used in the sixties of the nineteenth century.

Azraq Wetland Reserve

Marsh Trail

Description:
This easy walking trail gives you an excellent introduction to the Azraq Wetland Reserve. The boardwalk leads you through dry and wet areas to a viewing platform overlooking the artesian pools that once released millions of cubic meters of water into the marshland. After leaving the platform, the trail takes you over an ancient black basalt wall, most likely constructed by an Umayyad Caliph. The trail then leads to a bird hide made of local mud brick where you can observe the migratory birds and perhaps catch a glimpse of the water buffalo. Follow the trail back to the Visitor Center, passing yet another part of the ancient basalt wall.

Description:
This Circular trail starts at Azraq Wetland Reserve visitor center, with an excellent introduction to the Reserve passing by dry and wet areas to a viewing platform overlooking the artesian pools that once released millions of cubic meters of water into the marshland. Follow the trail forward to new wooden bird hides, passing yet another new water bodies to explore more habitats in the reserve and observe migratory bird species and catch a glimpse of the water buffalo. Then follow the trail back to the Visitor Center, passing by the largest water body in the reserve.

Description:
The tour starts from Amra Castle and ends at the Azraq Lodge. On the way, visitors will learn about nature, the history, and the people living in the area.

Bus Tours - Azraq Bus Tour

Description:
This is an easy way to explore the desert castles around the Azraq Reserve. From the Azraq Lodge, our shuttle bus will take you to the nearby Azraq Castle, which was used as a military base by T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) during the Arab Revolt. Next, travel to the Old Druze village and learn more about the first Druze settlement in the area. From here, the tour continues on foot, hiking 2 kilometers to Aines-Sil, a farmhouse built by the Umayyad. The bus will be waiting to take you to a local Druze home for tea and a light traditional meal before returning to the Lodge.

Usaykhim Bus Tour

Description:
From the Azraq Lodge, our shuttle bus will take you to a desert entrance to begin your hike to Wadi Usaykhim, where you will view inscriptions written by humans thousands of years ago. Continue hiking two kilometers to the top of the highest mountain, where the Usakhim fortress stands, marking the easternmost point of the ancient Roman Empire. Here, the shuttle bus will wait to take you to a local home for tea and a light traditional meal before returning to the Lodge.

Description:
The circular trail starts off at the Visitor Center then passes by the picnic and children's play areas. As you reach the Wadi’s entrance gate, RSCN’s tour guide will take a few minutes to introduce you to the reserve and what to expect along the trail.

As you enter, you will be taken by the beauty of the distinctive desert scenery and biodiversity. Shaumari is home to more than 190 registered species of plants. Hence, the route is filled with flora that makes a tapestry of colors and textures. Perennial or annual, some of these plants are Plantago, peganum harmala, artemisia, achillea and tamarix, retama and hordeum, while many are ideal for grazing and/or human consumption like chubaisa mauve, mountain spinach (atriplex hortensi), and ferula.

By the time, you get to the fenced enclosure, the first thing that will grab your attention is how mesmerizing are the long antlers of the White Arabian Oryx! Further down in your trail you will begin to notice small birds chirping. After a brief stop at the Rehabilitation Unit for Confiscating Animals, your journey ends where you’ve started it; at the Visitor Center.

Mujib Biosphere Reserve

Siq Trail - Wet Trail

Description:
The trail starts at the Adventures Center near the Mujib Bridge, where you will take the cantilevered walkway over the dam and follow the course of the river between towering sandstone cliffs to the base of a large waterfall. Depending on seasonal rainfall levels, the gorge may contain pools deep enough for swimming. This is an ideal walk to take slowly and enjoy the cool water and shade, especially in the heat of the summer.

Ibex Trail - Dry Trail

Requirements: Visitors must be at least 18 years old.

Description:
The trail begins at the Adventures Center and follows the Dead Sea Highway before ascending into the Reserve. Diverging to the south, the trail runs parallel to the Dead Sea, which provides a startlingly blue backdrop for the entire hike. The hike then continues along with a number of dry Wadis to the Raddas Ranger Station, where you may see Nubian Ibex. It is also, where the famous rock “statue” of Lot’s wife can be seen. After resting at the Station, the trail continues along a road for about one hour until reaching the Reserve entrance near the Visitor Center.

If desired, the trail can be done in reverse, from Rummana campsite to the Dana Guesthouse.

Wadi Dana Trail

Description:
Start from the Dana Guesthouse at 1200m above sea level and adventure down through the beautiful Dana Biosphere Reserve to Feynan at 325 m. Cross paths and exchange warm greetings with local Bedouin tending their goats or stop to rest and enjoy sweet tea. Experience the four different bio-geological zones of Dana and keep an eye out for the many rare forms of flora and fauna to be found here such as the Nubian ibex. For those looking for a steeper challenge, this hike can be made in reverse, uphill from Feynan to the Dana Guesthouse. Local drivers can transport your luggage to the lodge or the Guesthouse. There is an additional charge for transfers.

Description:
Continue along the gravel riverbed of the Wadi, alongside a flowing stream, to the entrance to Wadi Ghweir. Very similar to the famous Siq in Petra, the trail leads through magnificent sceneries of different stone formations and many unique plants and trees on both sides of the river. The scenery is so breathtaking it has been known to cause visitors to forget about everything else -- including how long they have been hiking! After 3.5 hours, you will have tea and you can rest and learn more about the area from your guide. From there, continue to the Byzantine archaeology at Khirbet Feynan until you reach your final destination at Feynan Ecolodge.

*This trail is closed in the case of rainfall in the surrounding mountains, due to the possibility of flash floods.
